Manager, IP

Tokyo lab

 

OriCiro Genomics is seeking an IP manager who will play an important role to secure and protect the Company’s intellectual property. The candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the Company’s IP matters including developing and executing global IP strategies, reviewing and overseeing patent drafting and filing by external counsel, and managing IP risks within the Company’s programs. Depending on the experience of the candidate, the candidate will be responsible for corporate legal issues as well. The candidate will report to the Chief Technology Officer. 

 

Roles and Responsibilities       

  • Provide clear and actionable intellectual property advice through all phases of technology development and commercialization

  • Create and execute global IP strategies for OriCiro’s various technologies

  • Develop the strategy for IP portfolio life cycle management and potential generic competition defense strategies. •    Manage intellectual property risks within the Company’s programs

  • Partner with the R&D team in identifying new inventions and provide IP counseling to internal projects

  • Review and oversee patent drafting and prosecution by external counsel

  • Partner effectively with OriCiro stakeholders across all phases of research, manufacturing, and development to build value for patients, shareholders and employees

  • Lead IP transactions including but not limited to due diligence, collaborations, licensing, business development and settlement agreements

  • Work with the Company’s executive leadership team to communicate the IP strategy to third parties and investors

  •  Counsel company scientists on intellectual property and confidentiality issues and participate in research planning to generate supporting data for patent filings

  • (Optional) Company’s legal counsel roles: manage effectively all legal issues including but not limited to reviewing various contracts

 

Minimum qualifications

  • 5+ years hands-on experience in drafting and prosecuting biotech/pharma patent applications.

  • An advanced degree in molecular biology, chemistry or other relevant scientific discipline

  • Experience with manufacturing and technology-based IP and launched products as well as early stage and clinical development.

  • Deep expertise and knowledge on relevant legal case law and rules

  • A hands-on, positive, results-orientated and success-driven approach/mindset.
