Scientist (New Applications)

Tokyo lab


OriCiro Genomics is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to assist in developing a wide variety of applications based on company technology. The candidate will play a key role in setting up and integrating new technologies at OriCiro as we expand our research capabilities. They will report to and work closely with the Chief Technology Officer.



Description of Duties         

  • Develop new protocols; test and evaluate a variety of approaches.

  • Perform complex experiments, and maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes; analyze and interpret research data resulting from original procedures and methods.

  • Perform ongoing literature review to remain current with new procedures and related research; propose new research directions based on new advances discussed in literature.

  • Manage laboratory resources to ensure workflows have the tools they need for successful execution (buffer preparation, protein and reagent stocks, etc.).

  • Organize and balance multiple projects while proactively communicating and exchanging information with team members.


Minimum qualifications and desired experience

  • PhD or MSc in biological sciences or a relevant field or BSc with biotech/pharmaceutical industry experience.

  • Mastery of standard molecular and cell biology techniques (e.g., DNA work, protein expression and detection, cell culture, etc.).

  • Ability to work in an independently, highly organized manner and propose creative yet critical troubleshooting solutions.

  • The ability to rapidly understand and learn new technologies that aid in biological analysis and integrate new technologies into existing projects

  • Experience with DNA manipulation and next-gen sequencing with Nanopore platforms are a plus.

  • Experience with baculovirus systems including virus generation for the creation of Baculovirus Infected Insect Cells (BIICs), BIIC amplification, and protein expression a plus.

  • Skilled in the use of bioinformatics tools a plus.

  • Experience working with the production and downstream transduction of a wide variety of viral vectors are a plus.
